Meter Processing
Meter processing combines the traditional meter in/out with line pack to provide an additional powerful tool to find leaks, both large and very small. The instantaneous meter over/short sums all input and output meters and does alarm checking (see alarm processing). The instantaneous meter over/short does not include line pack. The 15 minute and hour meter over/short has the line pack algebraically added into the calculation. The reason for adding linepack and meter over/short is as line pack is dropping or increasing it reaches equilibrium and the meter over/short compensates for the pressure equalizing.
